Automata Watches
Having already produced several bespoke watches with automata, Louis Vuitton embarked on multi-year developments of one-of-a-kind models that would bring the automata jacquemart concept to a new dimension. Originally created to strike the hours on church bell towers, jacquemarts then became decorative elements when miniaturized on timepieces. The Maison chose to return the jacquemart’s original automaton function of telling time but using its own way.
Tambour Fiery Heart Automata
Louis Vuitton demonstrates its advanced mastery in horological automata with the introduction of a new feminine complication watch. At the push of a button, the dial blooms in a profusion of animations, thanks to the first in-house self-winding automaton movement. Motion and dynamism define the Tambour Fiery Heart, but even more provocative is the revelation that lies beneath the lush petals and glossy heart of its dial with the first in-house enamel dial from Louis Vuitton.
Tambour Opera Automata
Louis Vuitton continues its journey into the exclusive world of fine watchmaking with automata pieces. As a tribute to Bian Lian, the art of face-changing of the Sichuan Opera, the virtuoso decor of this specific timepiece features a traditional mask that comes to life and changes expression on demand. Featuring a 16-second artistic performance, the dragon’s head rises to reveal the jumping hours while its tail indicates the retrograde minutes on the fan.
Tambour Einstein Automata Only Watch 2023
Louis Vuitton celebrates the push towards a better future with the Tambour Einstein Automata, uniquely created for the biennial Only Watch charity watch auction. An ode to the revolutionary accomplishments of Albert Einstein, the timepiece embodies the Maison’s ongoing evolution in high watchmaking and depicts an interpretation of one of his most iconic portraits. Intricate engraving work by Dick Steenman and grisaille enamelling by Nicolas Doublel extends beyond the case to a lock of Einstein’s recognizable hair disguised as the automata push piece - activating four animations to spring to life on the dial in an intriguing display of time on demand.
Tambour Carpe Diem Automata
With this striking, vanitas-inspired timepiece, Louis Vuitton has returned the jacquemart to its original functionality: with the push of a button, the automaton reveals the time through a clever interplay of the dial’s miniature skull and snake while emitting Horace’s famous words “Carpe Diem”. Rich in symbolism, the Tambour Carpe Diem has multiple, highly sophisticated complications such as a jumping hour and retrograde minute, with enamel elements by Anita Porchet and engraving by Dick Steenman.
