CITY GUIDE: MARRAKESH
Inspired by his explorations and his fascination with religious art, Miles Aldridge sets aside the glamorous, hyper-chromatic aesthetic with which he made his name for the series of photographs featured in his Fashion Eye album. Having first visited Córdoba as a student in 1989 during Semana Santa (Holy Week), the experience left a lasting mark on him, along with vivid memories of sights, sounds and smells. Since then, he has returned to the city frequently to relive that unique and special time.
For this Fashion Eye, Miles Aldridge revisited his initial impressions of Semana Santa, inspired by the life and writings of Federico García Lorca. In contrast with his studio work, here his images were taken with a Leica, using only available light. Politics, religion, family and kitsch intertwine with surrealistic elements to unfurl a rich flow of perceptions, in color as well as black and white.
ABOUT THE FASHION EYE SERIES
Each book in Louis Vuitton’s Fashion Eye series reveals a country, a region, a city, or a destination through the gaze of a fashion photographer. Title after title, a broad compendium of perspectives emerges, one that shifts with the destinations, including urban panoramas and natural landscapes, scenes of local life, and more contemplative work. Fashion Eye gives rise to an unprecedented dialogue between emerging talents, seasoned photographers, and fashion photography legends.
