With Africa as a central theme to Louis Vuitton’s Spring-Summer 2017 menswear collection, men’s artistic director Kim Jones designed a line-up of African animal illustrations which feature on ready-to-wear as well as on accessories offering an oneiric vision of wildlife. For the leather goods, the five animals are printed on the new Monogram Savane canvas, in ink or dune.
Alongside notions of safari and the gentleman traveller, the rebelliousness of London punk also takes a starring role. “There’s always something a little London hidden somewhere,” says Kim Jones, adding, “This time it is the influence of Punk, albeit via Africa, where Frank Marshall’s ‘Renegades’ portrait series of Botswana biker gangs in heavy leather depicts the fusion of two disparate aesthetics.”
Louis Vuitton’s pop-up store at Selfridges London plays host to this collection until January 2017. A visit that cannot be missed.
